Chit chat: 10 Steps Korean Skin Care Routine

Hey guys!

First of all, I might be super late, but happy belated anniversary for my blog! It supposed to be on 27th Feb, but i wasn't feeling well to update anything. Haha, I also wanted to make a giveaway, but I'm so tired to take pictures of the gifts (I already have so many gifts to give!), please pray so I will have more motivation and a healthy body+mind to celebrate soon hehe. Anyway, enough chit chat about my blog, today i want to share another chit chat article to pass the time! Might be useful for your skin :)

Are you huge fans of K-pop or K-dramas? Do you ever wonder how the artists and people in Korea have perfect skin? There is an answer to that, if you're huge fans of Korea, perhaps you have heard of this! The simple answer is, they take care of their skin quiet seriously. Even though I'm not a fans, but I know how well Korean people take care of their skin. The people in Korea have 10 steps of face treatments (okay, it might be not simple after all)! It might be a lot when you see these steps aaannndd so time demanding, but if you try it, it can actually be worth it!

Me, my self tried it sometimes, but I'm not strict enough, and most of the time I just skip them all together. That's why my skin is not getting any better I guess, lol. But, I'm still gonna share it anyway, in case you want to try them and have a better looking skin!

Here are the steps:

1. Pre-cleansing

This pre-cleansing step is to wash your face with oil based cleanser before washing your face with facial wash. With cleaning your face with oil based cleanser, you can erase your makeup and clean particles of dust that is stuck on your face from your outside activity and pollution.

Product I usually use: Sulwhasoo Cleansing Oil Ex / Shu Uemura POREfinist Cleansing Oil

2. Water based cleanser

Not so fast! Just using oil cleanser doesn’t do the job. You’ll need to do a double cleansing. Wash your face with a water-based cleanser and you’ll clean off any access from your oil cleanser. The water based cleanser also picks up any leftover dirt and particles that have not yet picked up from the oil based cleanser.

Product I usually use: Sulwhasoo Herbal Soap / Sulwhasoo Gentle Cleansing Foam Ex

3. Exfoliate

If you want a clear polished skin, you can exfoliate. It is not recommended to do this too often, so it is best to do this at least once or twice a week. Though if you have sensitive skin, you don’t always have to do this. The purpose of exfoliating is to scrub off dead skin cells that can clog pores which will then appear acne. After exfoliating, you’ll feel your skin smooth and silky. Did you know that you can even make one at home? You can use baking soda or even sugar, but make sure to do a test patch before putting anything on your face!

Product I usually use: Bio-Essence Deep Exfoliating Gel / Daiso Lemon Peeling Gel

4. Toner

Toner is used to re-hydrate your skin. It especially helps after you exfoliate. When your skin feels a bit dry, you can pour some in your hands or dab your toner into a cotton ball and just gently pat it on your face. Toner also helps your skin to balance the pH level after washing your face.

Product I usually use: Sulwhasoo Essential Balancing Water Ex / Bioderma Hydrabio Tonique

5. Essence

This step of skin routine is the heart of Korean. Yes, it means that this step is important to them. The purpose of essence are to eliminate wrinkles, fine lines, dull and uneven skin tones. Essence dry quickly on your face considering the fluid is easier to absorb into the skin. As a result, you don’t have to wait long to go to the next step!

Product I usually use: Bioderma Essence Lotion / L'Oreal White Perfect Clinical Derm White Essence

6. Mask / Sheet masks

Don’t we all love masks, especially sheet mask? It cools off your skin and it is nice to relax to. You can use most of the mask once or twice a week or even every day, it's up to you. Yup, it might be a bit pricey to use sheet mask everyday, but it does wonder when you use it everyday! I tried! Plus you can also combine the usage with regular mask!

Product I usually use: Beauty Mask / Sulwhasoo Clarifying Mask Ex / Sulwhasoo Overnight Vitalizing mask

7. Serum, booster, ampoule

This step is more targeted at intensive care for specific skin problems and normal skin. For ampoules, it is usually more common found in Korean products. Its own ingredients are most numerous compared to others. I mostly only use serum and booster without ampoule.
Product I usually use: Sulwhasoo First Care Serum Ex / Bioderma Hydrabio Serum

8. Eye Cream

Eye cream are used for protection from tired eyes and wrinkles. The area around your eyes are very delicate, so make sure you are taking care of it carefully. Use your ring finger when you are applying your eye cream and gently tap around the eyes. Remember to avoid rubbing around your eyes. Eye cream helps reduce eye bag and eye circle caused from exhaustion.

Product I usually use: Sulwhasoo Concentrated Ginseng Renewing Eye Cream / The Body Shop Moisture White Shiso 2in1 Brightening Eye Cream

9. Moisturizer

The reason we use moisturizer is to hydrate the skin. Use moisturizer into your face and neck every day.

Product I usually use: Sulwhasoo Essential Balancing Emulsion Ex / Sulwhasoo Essential Firming Cream Ex / L'Oreal White Perfect Clinical Cream

10. Sunscreen

Sunscreen is a very important step. It is to prevent premature aging and skin cancer. It is best to apply not just once when you’re exposed to sunlight. If you’re just outside for a few minutes it is still best to apply sunscreen. Even if you are indoors, but is still exposed to sunlight from your windows, you still need to apply sunscreen. It is better to be safe than sorry!

Product I usually use: Avene Sunblock Emulsion SPF 50+ / Lalawin Matte UV Shield SPF 50 PA+++

Ooh, I know it's a lot and take so much of our time, but when I actually do these steps, my skin looks and feels better. I hope my laziness will be gone and I will start taking care of my skin again. Hahaha, as for you, it's not late to try! So start trying! Of course you’ll have to be patient with the results though. But in the long run you might actually thank yourselves when you see the results from before to after! May the force always be with us while taking care of our skin ;)

Have you tried this Korean routine before? If so, please do share! Anyway, that all for today's chit chat, I hope you'll find this chit chat useful. See you on my next post!

  1. Mba nanya yg ttg sheet mask. Itu kan ditempel di wajah sktr 15-20 menit. Nah setelah itu, sisa2 essencenya dibersihkan pake air ato ga sih? Ada yg bilang jgn dibilas. Diratakan aja di wajah. Nah lalu, kalo udh pake sheetmask, trs pake night cream lg?

Intinya setiap penggunaan skincare, sebelum ditiban skincare lainnya dikasih jarak waktu resap aja beberapa menit (bisa sekitar 5menitan), semoga membantu yaaa ;D

    2. Oke siiip. Thanks mba :) .. Selama ini kalo udh pake sheet mask, jrg aku timpa jadinya krn ngerasa berat. Tp ternyata oke aja Yaa.. :). Pengen mulai rutin perawatan ritual wajah ini

    3. sama samaaa, goodluck ya buat cobain ritual panjang ini hahaha, semoga tetap konsisten dan hasilnya memuaskan <3 <3

  2. Aku bisa kayak ginian buat skincare pagi doang kalau malam kayak udah tepar dan cuma butuh serum sama pelembab terus langsung tidur. Hihi

    1. huahaha, justru aku masih bego kalo pagi, jadi kadang skincare sama sekali gak tersentuh, kalau malam malah lebih niat (anaknya kalong) hahhaha
